Forever In Our Hearts

Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Damien March 13, 2004 to April 23, 2007

My Day Day died unexpectedly 24 hours after eating Turkey stool.  We found out later that the Turkey had been snacking on mushrooms.  Day passed away from mushroom poisoning from the tiny fragments of mushrooms that the Turkey had passed through it's stool.   April 23, 2007 was one of if not the worst day of my life.  Damien was such a wonderful boy who had only just turned 3 years old.  There are some 600 species of amanita mushrooms out there.  Only around 10% of them are actually poisonous.  If i can save just one dog by posting Damien's story here then it is worth it.  Scan your yards for mushrooms, make sure you know what goes in your fur babies mouths.  It take .5mg per kg of body weight to kill your fur kids.  Which means that a piece of mushroom that is smaller then a pea can kill your dog.

Damien touched many lives in his short time here but during his last 7 months of his life he touch the life of a very special man and created a friendship between 2 people that will last a life time.  7 months before Damien passed he went to live with a very special man named Kevin.  Damien was having some issues with male dog aggression so Kevin took Damien in to help him through his issues and spoil him rotten.  Kevin was able to help Damien some and in the mean time formed an unbreakable bond with Damien.  Damien was nick named Sugar Ray (Ray-Ray) for his sweetness.   It was just as devastating a loss to Kevin as it was to me when Damien (Sugar Ray) got sick.  Kevin did everything right.  He got Day to the emergency vet at the very incling of a problem and spared no expense to try to save Damien's life.   Kevin went above and beyond what most people could or would have done.  Kevin made sure he called me and kept me informed.  He made sure i was there and knew every single thing that was being done.   After seeing how devastated Kevin was i vowed then and there that when Kevin was ready he would have another boxer and i would be the one to give him that gift.  He gave Damien such a great 7 months of life and that was a gift.  I need to return that gift.  Kevin is such an amazing person.  Before Damien He suffered the loss of another Boxer he had for many years.   Kevin will never have to go with out a boxer in his life again.  He will always have a boxer from me as long as he wants one.
